My Story
When I was a kid, my home was filled with wooden toys. My father loved making things by hand, carving and shaping wood. He would sand each piece smooth, turning ordinary wood into little treasures. My favorite was the small wooden sword he made. It wasn’t perfect, but it was warm and full of heart.
As I grew older, life got heavier—stress, noise, endless rushing. But every time I saw the calm creatures of the deep—the jellyfish, the manta ray, the whale—I felt something I hadn’t felt in years: peace. So I started creating these wooden versions of ocean life by myself. Every time I see them move, it feels like going back to that simple, carefree childhood.
I was born and raised in Dongyang, a city in eastern China with a thousand-year-old woodcarving tradition, renowned as the World Capital of Woodcarving. Growing up here, I was surrounded by the ingenuity of generations of wood craftsmen, which deeply rooted my love for woodworking in my bones. This long-standing traditional craftsmanship has always been the source of inspiration for my creation.
Wood stands for nature, motion stands for curiosity and innocence, and the marine life—with its slow, flowing rhythm—stands for calm and healing.
From this deep love and lifelong connection with wood, I founded my brand —LignMar, which is officially registered in the United States. In the name LignMar, "L" stands for focus and dedication, while "M" stands for sincerity and heart. These two letters embody my original aspiration: to create every piece with full concentration and genuine affection.
At LignMar, I believe that true beauty lies in the details and the calm of the sea. I hope to bring you a piece of that tranquility, a moment to pause and appreciate the simple wonders around.
So I keep creating with wood. I sand, carve, and shape each piece with care. I hope each piece I create brings you warmth and love, and stays with you through your days.
That’s the meaning of what I do.
This is LignMar.
